Young man kills himself due to current hardship

It was a terrible sight as the body of a 29-year-old man, identified as Ebere Kenneth, dangled from a rope tied to the roof of his room at Hayin-Babantunga via Tafa in Ni­ger State.

Kenneth waited until no one was around him before taking his life. The motivation behind the suicide saga is currently unknown but people are not ruling out the prevailing harsh econ­omy.

A family source, Eb­ere James, who reported the incident to the police blamed the government for inflicting unbearable pains and hardship on Ni­gerians alleging that “Ken­neth took his life, blaming his action on the prevail­ing hardship.”

Investigations revealed that few days to his death, the deceased complained bitterly about the current economic crunch.

James added that Ken­neth was immediately bur­ied after some traditional rites were performed.

In a recent report by the Nigerian Police Force, about 62 Nigerians have committed suicide due to recession since the official announcement was made in August.

Confirming the inci­dent, the DPO, Tafa Di­vision, CSP Yakubu Mo­hammed, said the case was reported to them and after investigation “there was no foul play suspected.”
