It was a terrible sight as the body of a 29-year-old man, identified as Ebere Kenneth, dangled from a rope tied to the roof of his room at Hayin-Babantunga via Tafa in Niger State.
Kenneth waited until no one was around him before taking his life. The motivation behind the suicide saga is currently unknown but people are not ruling out the prevailing harsh economy.
A family source, Ebere James, who reported the incident to the police blamed the government for inflicting unbearable pains and hardship on Nigerians alleging that “Kenneth took his life, blaming his action on the prevailing hardship.”
Investigations revealed that few days to his death, the deceased complained bitterly about the current economic crunch.
James added that Kenneth was immediately buried after some traditional rites were performed.
In a recent report by the Nigerian Police Force, about 62 Nigerians have committed suicide due to recession since the official announcement was made in August.
Confirming the incident, the DPO, Tafa Division, CSP Yakubu Mohammed, said the case was reported to them and after investigation “there was no foul play suspected.”
