Lai Mohammed: No need for updates on PMB's health!

Lai Mohammed, the current minister of information in 2009 while serving as spokesman of the Action Congress, demanded that the federal cabinet gives Nigerians daily authentic health status update on former president Umaru Musa Yaradua.

Lai asked the federal cabinet to put the nation first by giving the updates and that they move to certify Yaradua unfit to continue as president. The late president had been away in Saudi Arabia and his absence from the country was causing uncertainty and confusion in the polity.

Lai Mohammed doesn’t think his demand as an opposition spokesman applies for his current boss, President Muhammadu Buhari. Why? He told state house correspondents on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 after a cabinet meeting presided over by acting president Yemi Osinbajo, that unlike the late Yaradua, President Buhari is not in admission or in danger.
“There is no need to give anyone, any bulletin about his health,” he said, while flanked by power, works and housing minister, Babatunde Fashola; industry, trade and investment minister, Okechukwu Enelamah; and agriculture minister, Audu Ogbeh.

Lai insisted that the president is not sick, even though he indefinitely extended his vacation abroad on Sunday at a time of massive economic upheaval in the country.

In a stunning explanation, the minister said the fact that all cabinet members are working is an indication that the president is “hale and hearty.”

“Do you think we will be consulting our business like this if Mr. President is ill?” he asked.

“Fashola was in Anambra last week, I was in Kwara yesterday, all our ministers are busy doing their work. Mr. President is well and is absolutely not in danger,” he said.

“I can say without any hesitation that Mr. President is well, is hale and hearty. No question about that.”

Reminded about his call in 2009 for a daily update on Yaradua’s health, Lai said the two situations are like “comparing oranges with apples”.
