PDP Plans Merger With Four Other Political Parties to Usurp The Ruling Party APC

The Peoples' Democratic party (PDP) and four other political parties have reportedly met in Abuja on Thursday and vowed to work together to usurp the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2019.

Redemption Party, Social Democratic Party, Alliance for Democracy and Accord Party. It was gathered that the meeting was the brainchild of the PDP as it was a former Minister of information, Prof. Jerry Gana, that led the PDP delegation to the meeting.

Gana, who was the chairman of the PDP Strategy Review and Inter-Party Affairs Committee, had said in Abuja on Wednesday, that the PDP was planning to collaborate with other political parties ahead of 2019.

He further said the meeting had nothing to do with the rumoured mega party, “but a separate and highly principled initiative of the PDP.”

The five parties said that almost two years now since the new administration held position, it has been abundantly clear to everyone whether inside or outside Nigeria that the promise of “so-called change is not for positive change but rather a pipe dream that unleashed a series of retrogressive actions that has put our country permanently on the reverse gear.”

Gana also said that "since assuming office in 2015, the Buhari administration has reneged on its fancy electoral promises, and has also messed up the economy and scared away foreign investors by its “convoluted pronouncements.”

In the communique of the Thursday meeting, the five political parties said they were yielding to the desire of Nigerians to save the country.
