EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS, SEMEN-TWIN TO THE GREATNESS OF NIGERIA - FAGBOHUN BOLUWATIFE

The Mariam Webster Dictionary, on the one hand, defines Education as, " a field of study that deals with the methods and problems of teaching. Moreover, Vocation on the contrary as "a strong desire to spend your life doing a certain kind of work." Education and vocational training in an underdeveloping country are very essential because of the level of unemployment in the country.

From the context above, Education will only make you acquire knowledge while to be skilled in a vocational work will get you develop your interest in a particular field you cherish. To be proficient in a vocational job will develop one to be self-reliance and education will help such individual in the area of interaction with his colleagues and the method individual can use to maximize his or her goals for the establishment.

In a country like Nigeria, we have vocational schools that train the citizens on how to stand on their own, they offer jobs like; fishery, tailoring, web designing and so on, but because of the level of illiteracy in the country, most of them prefer to walk on the street.

This opportunity has gotten to the graduate in the country, but they are ignorant because of the degree they have achieved, that is why you will see many of them still seeking for white collar jobs. I am happy for the wise students because most of them are in schools, Universities, but before the close of the day you will also see them in their vocational schools, such students will not suffer from unemployment in the country but they will rather start their own business after they might have obtained their degree.

In this 21st century, we have a high population in Nigeria and some other countries, some countries have tried their best by reducing the population, but I opined that this method is not effective enough. As an intelligent individual I know the consequences of overpopulation, it causes unemployment which I am concerned about from the above Headline of my write-up.

My advice for secondary school students and up to university level is that they should have a passion for their dreams and also be able to learn in a vocational school. A student or citizen can decide to be a tailor, graphics designer and so on. Because in a country like Nigeria to be precise, we have so many graduates without a job. Therefore, students who succeed in a vocational school will not find life difficult after his or her degree, but instead, he will depend on the skills he has acquired to generate wealth for himself.

In China, most of them did not go to school, but because of what they have a passion for, they create many things we see in Nigeria today, most of the products we use and cherish in Nigeria is gotten from the Chinese. So let us wake up from our sleep and make something out of nothing.
Finally, I will urge citizens to build their interest and attend vocational schools as this will help to minimize the rate of unemployment and poverty in the country.
